Coagulation

Clotting is the process by which blood is transformed from a liquid into a gel, called a clot (or thrombus). Coagulation is the result of haemostasis, a very complex process that involves platelet (thrombocyte) activation, adhesion and aggregation as well as the formation of a fibrin network. Pathological coagulation conditions can manifest themselves either as haemorrhage (bleeding) or thrombosis.
